Getting Started

Quick start: from install to your first results

CiteTrack AI dashboard in WordPress showing AI crawler hits, AI answer impressions, citations recorded and the AI Visibility Index
The CiteTrack AI dashboard, your AI visibility at a glance after install.

This is the fastest route from a fresh install to seeing whether AI cites you. Follow it top to bottom, each step links to a deeper guide if you want detail.

1. Install & activate

Upload the plugin zip (Plugins → Add New → Upload), activate it, and you land on the Setup wizard. Crawler logging starts immediately, free.

2. Activate your license

Paste your key under License (wizard step 1). This unlocks citation tracking, attribution, reputation and alerts.

3. Connect Google (optional but recommended)

One-click sign-in under Integrations (wizard step 2) adds index status and GA4 push. You can skip and do it later.

4. Add an AI engine key

Citation tracking uses your API key for each engine. Add at least one (OpenAI, Perplexity, Gemini or Claude) under Citations (wizard step 3). See “Add your engine API keys” for where to get each. Tip: click Test next to a key to confirm it works.

5. Add your first prompt

On Citations (wizard step 4), add a real question a buyer would ask AI, e.g. “best WordPress plugin to track AI citations”, your domain, and a couple of competitor domains.

6. Run it

Click Run all prompts now. A progress bar runs each prompt against each engine. When it finishes, the results table fills in: cited / mentioned / absent, your position, sentiment.

7. Read the trends

After a few runs, open Visibility for your rank-tracker trends, Reputation for what AI says about you, and set an Alert or two so changes find you.

Don’t see scheduled runs happen on their own later? Your host may disable WP-Cron, see Troubleshooting. For now, “Run all prompts now” always works.
