Troubleshooting & FAQ

Updating CiteTrack (and how updates work)

Licensed sites update like any other plugin, and your data is never touched by an update.

Automatic (recommended)

When a new version ships, WordPress shows update available on the Plugins screen with the changelog. Click update; CiteTrack replaces itself in place. No re-entering keys or settings.

Manual upload

  1. Download the latest citetrackai-X.Y.Z.zip from your account.
  2. Plugins → Add New → Upload. WordPress detects the existing install and offers Replace current with uploaded, choose that.

Database updates after a release

Some releases add indexes, repair old storage backlogs, clean orphaned rows or create new task history. CiteTrack runs that work in safe batches. If WP-Cron is delayed, you may see Run the update now; click it once and let the update finish. The updater preserves saved reports, assigned work, evidence baselines, prompts, settings and keys.

Multisite updates

On multisite, updates run per site so large networks do not time out. New sites are initialized automatically, and missing scheduled jobs are recreated from wp-admin or WP-Cron recovery paths.

The folder inside the zip is always citetrackai; the version lives in the file name only. Never rename the folder, that is what lets WordPress update in place instead of creating a duplicate. Your analytics, prompts, keys and settings live in the database and survive every update (and even a delete-and-reinstall, unless you ticked “delete data on uninstall”).
