How much revenue is AI quietly driving?
AI-referred visitors usually show up in analytics as “direct,” so the sales they drive look like they came from nowhere. Plug in your numbers and estimate how much of your “direct” revenue is really AI search.
Not a store? Read “average order value” as the value of a lead or signup, and conversion rate as your form-fill rate.
This is an estimate from the inputs you choose. To measure AI-referred revenue for real, CiteTrack AI de-anonymises AI traffic and ties it to actual WooCommerce or EDD orders.
Why your AI revenue is invisible
When someone reads about you in a ChatGPT or Perplexity answer and then clicks through or types your name into their browser, most analytics tools have no referrer to attribute the visit to. So it lands in the “direct” bucket, the same pile as people typing your URL from memory. The visit is real and the sale is real, but the channel that drove it is hidden. Multiply that across a month and you have a meaningful slice of revenue that your reports credit to nothing at all.
This calculator makes that hidden slice visible as an estimate. It takes your traffic, the share that shows as direct, a conservative guess at how much of that direct traffic is actually AI-referred, and your conversion economics, and works out what AI search is plausibly worth to you each month and year. It will not be exact, but it reframes AI from an abstract trend into a number you can reason about.
How the estimate works
The math is deliberately simple so you can sanity-check it. Direct visitors are your monthly traffic times your direct share. AI-referred visitors are that figure times the portion you attribute to AI. Multiply by your conversion rate to get orders, and by average order value to get revenue. Change any input and the result updates live, so you can see how sensitive the number is to your assumptions. The default AI share is intentionally cautious; if you have seen ChatGPT or Perplexity referrals in your logs, you can raise it.
Estimated AI visits = monthly visitors × direct traffic share × AI share of direct Estimated AI orders = AI visits × conversion rate Estimated AI revenue = AI orders × average order valueWorked example: a store with 40,000 monthly visits
Say your store gets 40,000 visits per month, 30% appears as direct traffic, and you believe 20% of that direct traffic may be influenced by AI answers. That gives you 2,400 estimated AI-referred visits. At a 2% conversion rate, that becomes 48 orders. At an $80 average order value, the modeled hidden AI revenue is $3,840 per month, or $46,080 per year. The exact number may change, but the example shows why AI attribution is worth measuring instead of leaving it inside Direct.
Reading the result honestly
Treat the output as a planning estimate, not a measurement. The one input nobody knows precisely is how much of your “direct” traffic is genuinely AI-driven, which is exactly the thing a guess cannot settle and proper attribution can. The value here is in the order of magnitude and in the sensitivity: if even a small slice of your direct traffic is AI, and your store does real volume, the annual figure is usually large enough to be worth measuring properly rather than guessing.
From estimate to measured revenue
The natural next question is “what is my real number?” That is what CiteTrack AI answers. It recognises AI-referred sessions that analytics misfiles as direct, separates them into their own channel, and on WooCommerce or EDD ties them to actual orders, broken out by engine. So instead of a calculator’s estimate you get the real attributed revenue, which is also the number that justifies investing in AI visibility at all. Frequently asked questions
Why does AI traffic show as "direct" in analytics?
Because clicks from AI answers often carry no referrer, so analytics cannot identify the source and buckets the visit as direct. The revenue is real but the channel is hidden, which is why AI search looks like it drives nothing.
How accurate is this calculator?
It is a planning estimate, not a measurement. The uncertain input is what share of your direct traffic is genuinely AI-referred. For a real figure you need attribution that recognises AI sessions and ties them to orders, which CiteTrack AI does.
How do I find my "direct" traffic share?
In GA4, look at Traffic acquisition and find the Direct channel as a percentage of sessions. Many sites sit around 20 to 40 percent. Enter that here.
I do not run a store. Can I still use it?
Yes. Read average order value as the value of a lead, demo or signup, and conversion rate as your form-fill rate. The logic is identical for lead generation.
How do I measure AI revenue for real?
CiteTrack AI de-anonymises AI-referred sessions and attributes them to actual WooCommerce or EDD orders, broken out by engine, so you get measured revenue instead of an estimate.
Is the calculator free?
Yes, free with no signup. It runs entirely in your browser; nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
Estimate it here. Measure it with CiteTrack AI.
